May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amYou are 100% right. I did the same with d-logs settings. So many hours spent on grading, for a really small gain. I stick on Cinelike with some adjustments, really similar to yours. +1

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amhey, i might of missed where you said what you film settings are on, but do you film on raw, or d-cinelike?

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amWow. Iβm late to the party but guys what a great video. Colour grading simply explained. Itβs like a light just came on for me. Love your channel. Keep up the great work. And be safe in lockdown in Spain.

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 ammany like d cinelike

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amHmm, I don't think you can sensibly judge dynamic range using shots with blown highlights. You have no idea how much the range has been limited by the over exposure. Also, some software suites can now create LUT's for ANY camera using a known colour (or color!) chart reference. Apply LUTs to bring colours consistent, tweak grading and then adjust exposure (I think). There are different complexities of LUTs, which may be where the problems with D-Log lie. Consult Alister Chapman's extensive largely Sony based YouTube posts for much, much more detail. I think this episode needs an update, but truthfully I'm way out of my depth. BobUK.

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amThere is no d cinelike, I only had dlog and hlg. Is hlg the new cinelike?

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amSo Iβm not crazy!! I went against the grain and did what you said, 1 year later I now have confirmation from this video. Thank you. Subbed-

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amHi, do the settings for the saturation, contrast and stuff still stand for the mavic pro 1? I think the settings are updated since this video was recorded (it is 2 years ago)
Wade Morales
May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amalso does this information still stand with the Mavic Pro 2 D-log?

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amawesome video.. do you have any videos on sharpening in final cut pro? I am new to final cut and noticed their sharpening is pretty basic with just an amount slider. Is there a plugin that offers a sharpening with an amount, radius and masking?

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amYes much counts on what hardware U choose. That being said this is bullshit. Do your homework first.

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amThis is the best video I've seen about how to deal with colours in post, explains everything crisp and clear, thanks a lot!

What kind of video editing tool are you using?

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amWhat do style do you prefer with the mavic 2 Pro? Log or normal?

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amThe purpose of shooting log is to compensate for the decrease in bit steps at the dark end of the lighting scale.
For example, for each f stop that light level decreases, there are half as many bits to convey the image. Say we start with white and use all 255 levels to produce it. Now -1 EV we have 128 levels. -2 EV we have 64 levels, -3 EV we have 32 levels.. -4 EV we are down to just 16 levels of grey! It only gets worse at -5 EV with 8 levels, -6 EV with 4 levels. Imagine FOUR levels of grey. That would posterize and look bloody awful.
So the solution is to apply a log curve to distribute the bits better across the dynamic range of the sensor. With a log cuve, we can have 32 or more levels at -6 EV exposure levels where we had only 4 with a "linear" interpretation. This is the real benefit of Log.

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amEven though this is an older video, it's still great stuff. Timeless, like you always mention. I'm wondering if you would still recommend -1 across the board for the Mavic 2 Pro?
Thanks for all the great videos!

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amHi, Stewart! It's me again lol, I have another question. How can I bring up the histogram on Premiere Pro? Does it function exactly like the histogram on the Mavic and or on any DSLR camera?

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 am4:57 What application did you use? Thanks in advance.

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amFor the D-log hard to monitor problem , you could use their DJI crystalsky instead of phone/ tablet. Crystalsky could real time D-log capture with LUT applied.

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amThank you, I have been having so many problems matching shots in D-Log and wasting time in the edit. Fantastic down to earth advice.

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amMillion dollar question in 2018. Now that you are using the Mavic 2 Pro is the DLog-M 10-bit with h.265 codec good? Maybe you should make a video on that and what challenges you get when you color correct. Cheers.

May 8, 2022 at 5:47 amIm curious, the bitrate is lower in d log than with no effect…so how to colorgrade the "no preset" mode?
