Why do you use two lanes of video in FCP – when you have gaps in your lower level of video clips?
Could you not just insert the other clips in the gaps?

I have never used that editing program I have only used imovie as it comes free with my computer but have considered final cut if i think I can understand it. I also have always added music last but do like your idea of having it first,
